NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A barber was shot late Thursday night while trying to help a customer who was being robbed in north Nashville.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at Images Braids and Barber Shop on Dickerson Pike.
Police said barber Charles Martin was finishing his work for the night when one of his customers walked outside and was approached by two masked men. The customer was then shoved back into the business.
When Martin came to see what was going on, police said the attackers shot him in the arm.
"It happened so quick. I didn't even know I got shot. It happened so quick," Martin said.
The robbers fled the business with cash, a television and Martin's sport utility vehicle.
"I threw them everything I had in my pocket, and my partner gave him his. And they said, 'I need more money than that,'" Martin said.
Investigators found the SUV and television down the road, which led police to a home on Bellshire Terrace where a standoff ensued. However, police later found the home empty.
The attackers are described as two black men that are 18 to 20 years old. One man had dreadlocks with red tips, said witnesses.
Martin is expected to survive his gunshot wounds and was back to cutting hair Friday.
