NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
The Alabama Department of Transportation has announced plans to repair the Interstate 65 bridges over the Tennessee River, which may affect Middle Tennessee drivers traveling to and from Alabama.
The deck maintenance project is scheduled to begin Monday and will last through early August.
During the course of the project, one lane will remain closed in both directions, which will likely cause lengthy delays for drivers, ALDOT officials said.
ALDOT released a list of suggested alternate routes around the project, which would take vehicles to Highway 31 in nearby Decatur, AL.
Suggested alternate routes include:
I-65 SOUTHBOUND
Exit 354 – U.S. Highway 31 - Athens
Exit 347 – Huntsville, Browns Ferry Road (Light loads only)
I-65 NORTHBOUND
Exit 318 – U.S. Highway 31 - Lacon
Exit 325 – Thompson Road
Exit 328 – State Route 36 - Hartselle (U.S. Highway 231 North-Huntsville traffic only)
Exit 334 – State Route 67 - Decatur, Priceville, Somerville
