Metro's Transportation Licensing Commission director retires

Posted: Updated:

Big changes may be coming to a troubled Metro agency.

The director of the Transportation Licensing Commission stepped down on Tuesday.

Brian McQuistion announced his retirement as the city of Nashville considers the Department of Public Works to oversee the agency, and on the heels of a controversial investigation.

In April, Metro's police chief accused the agency's inspectors of impersonating police officers. A Channel 4 investigation revealed these impersonators carried police badges and guns while on the job.

McQuistion was appointed to the position back in 2004. As director of the agency, he heads all permits, and regulates taxis, wreckers and carriages in Nashville.

Billy Fields, the current director of Mayor Karl Dean's Office of Neighborhoods, will serve as interim director. Metro Council will have to finalize the approval or any other change.
