If you get a text message saying you didn't show up for jury duty, don't reply right away. It may be a ploy to steal your identity, according to police in Cadiz, KY.
Officers said that circuit court clerks in the region have been warned about the scam.
The message will say you didn't show up for jury duty and will give you a number to call.
When you call the number, you're given an option to pay a fine or serve jail time. You may also be asked for your date of birth or Social Security number.
Remember, court clerks will always contact your through the mail if you're a prospective juror, never on your cell phone.
