Coach charged with DUI resigns

Posted: Updated:

Stewart County High School's football coach has stepped down from his post, just days after being arrested on drunk driving charges.

According to the Stewart County Times, Kenny Haggard resigned Friday, citing personal reasons.

Haggard was arrested July 4 at 5:30 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence and released on bond at 8 p.m., according to the Stewart County Sheriff's Department website.

Haggard was hired May 21 to fill the post vacated by former head football coach Myles Holliday in April.

Haggard had returned to Stewart County after working as a civilian contractor in Iraq.
