Deadly crash closes southbound I-65 for hours

Posted: Updated:

A fatal crash on Interstate 65 closed all southbound lanes of the interstate in Sumner County for nearly six hours Sunday night.

The wreck happened at mile marker 101 near White House around 4 p.m.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officials said a red Dodge pickup truck pulling a camper headed north, crossed the median and crashed head-on into a Buick driving south.

The driver of the Buick, Grace A.  Delmotte, 69, of Cottontown, TN, wound up in a ditch along the road and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, crews airlifted the female driver of the truck and her passenger to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  They were identified as Lora H. Hickman, 39, and Emiley Hickman, 10, both of Springfield, TN.

TDOT originally estimated the wreck to be cleared by 6 p.m., but traffic didn't start moving on the interstate until close to 10:30 p.m.
