3 local athletes miss making U.S. Olympic team

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Three athletes with ties to Middle Tennessee missed their shot Thursday night to compete in the Olympics.

Dakota Hodgson didn't finish in one of the top two spots of the 200-meter butterfly in Thursday night's U.S. Olympic trials, meaning he won't be going to London to participate in that event.

Gold medalist Michael Phelps easily finished first in the race, with Tyler Clark in second.

Hodgson is entered in the 100-meter butterfly trials this weekend and can still qualify for the Olympics in that event.

Andrew Bumbalough finished fourth in the 5,000-meter race. He needed to place in the top three to make the team. Bumbalough ran for Brentwood Academy before graduating from Georgetown University.

Williamson County's Kathy Kroeger also missed the cut in the women's 5,000 meters.
