10,000 bees swarm outside of Bridgestone Arena

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A swarm of bees caused an area outside of the Bridgestone Arena to be roped off from pedestrians around noon Friday.

Beekeeper David Young was called to Fifth Avenue and Broadway to relocate the bees, which he said were merely following their queen as she looked for a new home.

Young said the queen must have got tired, stopped to rest on a garbage can and caused a swarm.

More than 10,000 bees were on the receptacle when Young arrived. He managed to catch most of them and said he will safely take them to his property.

Young said the remaining bees downtown will eventually leave the area.
