NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police have identified the man killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 West in northern Davidson County on Monday morning.

Joe Darnell Jr., 58, of Joelton died when his pickup truck left the interstate and crashed into a rock wall near Old Hickory Boulevard in the Whites Creek area.

The wreck, which happened at about 10:10 a.m., may have been caused by a medical issue, police said. Investigators believe there was no evidence of alcohol involvement or excessive speed.

Westbound traffic was affected for about three hours, but the roadway was cleared by 1 p.m.

Darnell was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police.
