PORTLAND, TN (WSMV) -

The small town of Portland is rallying around a 3-month-old child who is beating all the odds. Andrew Hagewood was clinging to life when he received a heart transplant in March.

Supporters are now using this weekend's Portland Strawberry Festival to raise money and awareness about the importance of organ donation.

From the time little Andrew came into this world on Feb. 6, his parents have known every minute is precious.

"It has been very difficult, especially as a parent, when you don't have control," father Keith Hagewood said.

Initially they prepared for the worst by deciding they would donate his organs. But then, a miracle happened. Instead of donating, Andrew became a recipient of a heart transplant.

"Without someone making the decision of their baby not being able to sustain life, with them giving life to us, that's what allows us to stand here today," Keith Hagewood said.

While Andrew's parents remain by his side, an army of prayer warriors are working all across the country. The family even has a map to keep track of the locations from where their prayers are coming.

"I'm going to tell him how much he has been blessed by everyone. They blessed us, in supporting him," Keith Hagewood said.

And a special shirt is on sale with the special message to "Have Heart." Proceeds from the shirts are going to help the Hagewoods get back on their feet.

"We are just so thankful for each and every one, whether they've offered up prayers or financially supported us by a dollar or any amount. We are just so thankful, because all of it coming together. We would really be in a worse position if not for them," Keith Hagewood said.

Some 600 T-shirts have already been pre-sold at $10. You will be able to purchase one this weekend at the strawberry festival or by emailing FUNDRAISING4ANDREW@COMCAST.NET.
