Adoption advocates upset at joke in 'The Avengers'

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The popular new movie 'The Avengers' has caused some outrage from the adoption community.

An online petition is demanding an apology from Marvel Comics after a joke in the movie fell flat with adoption advocates.

In the movie, the character Thor defends the villain's actions by saying he's his brother. But when Black Widow says the villain has killed 80 people in two days, Thor quickly responds, "He's adopted."

Adoption advocates say they are tired of being punch lines to jokes and the notion that being adopted is bad.

Only a few hundred people have signed the petition so far.

Do you think the joke goes too far? Leave a comment or take our informal survey below.
