NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro police officer who had been decommissioned during an investigation into a misdemeanor domestic assault charge was fired Tuesday.

Brandon D. Smith, who worked in the West Precinct, was accused of assault in May after his girlfriend alleged that he struck her in the face during an argument at his south Nashville apartment.

According to a news release, the 29-year-old woman said the argument began while the couple was at a Bellevue pub and continued after they left. She called police from Smith's apartment to report being assaulted.

Smith, 35, was a four-year police department veteran. He was fired at the conclusion of a Metro disciplinary hearing, police said.

The domestic assault case against Smith is still pending.
