Father says "it was a nightmare" when daughter was missing

He spent hours worrying when his 15-year-old disappeared.

"She's doing just fine. She was treated and released from the hospital. She's home fine now," said Robert Alcorn.

A driver found Kirsten Alcorn laying on the side of the road. She was about a mile from her parents' home in Cookeville, and she was alive. Police say Kirsten's parents were the ones who realized she was gone before 9 p.m. Wednesday night. Authorities immediately put out an Amber Alert.

"You think it will never happen to you, and then it does. You're dangling. It's like an ongoing a nightmare," he said.

Robert Alcorn said he's still unsure what happened to Kirsten. He couldn't tell us whether she was hurt for fear it could jeopardize the investigation.

"The officer of 30 years told us we've never had anything like this in Cookeville," Alcorn said.

This isn't the Alcorn family's first brush with tragedy this year. Back in February their business, a family-owned tanning salon, burned down. It was investigated as arson.

"That was horrible. We're still getting over that as well," Alcorn said.

The business was a total loss. Alcorn says he's so relieved he didn't lose his daughter, too.

"We think that with along with the police department and all that, that's what helped us to get her."
