Student info accidentally left on Vol State server

Posted: Updated:
GALLATIN, TN (WSMV) -

Administrators with Volunteer State Community College are notifying thousands of people about a potential security glitch.

The school says information connected to 14,000 students and faculty was left accessible on a server used for classes.

Files on that computer contained names and Social Security numbers but no financial information.

School officials said it's unlikely anyone looked at the files without permission since 2008.

However, the school is talking to credit reporting companies and recommending students put a fraud alert on their credit reports.
