Dangerous road has Clarksville police increasing patrols

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It's considered by some to be one of the most dangerous roads in Middle Tennessee.  Now, law enforcement wants to do something about it.

Clarksville police on Monday began a crack down on speeders on a heavily traveled Tiny Town Road.

Just this year alone, there have been more than 100 crashes, injuring dozens of drivers and killing one.

Tiny Town Road has a stretch of highway memorials because of wrecks over the years. Police say where the road crosses Tara Boulevard is one of the most dangerous spots.

"At this particular intersection, in the last two years, we have had three fatalities," Clarksville police spokesman Jim Knoll said. "Twenty-eight of the 100 crashes on this road have happened here."

So, what is the problem with Tiny Town Road?  Why so many crashes?

Two possible culprits are an open stretch of roadway that invites speeding and also a recent increase of new homes has creating more traffic.

Officers said over the course of two hours Monday morning they pulled over more than a dozen drivers who were speeding.

Police said they are also keeping an eye out for drivers following too closely and people driving recklessly on the road.
