A female driver died Wednesday afternoon following a fiery crash involving three vehicles on Interstate 65.

The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. in Maury County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Patricia Carol Perry of Lewisburg, TN, 35, was driving her sport-utility vehicle southbound but lost control and crossed the median.  Her SUV hit a northbound tractor-trailer, causing it to catch fire.

A third vehicle driving northbound tried to avoid being struck by Perry's SUV but lost control and struck a guardrail.

"I told (my wife) it reminded me of one of those movies, you know, where everything blows up in front of the people," said Edward Moffo, who witnessed the aftermath of the crash. "You could see the flames coming up and they were coming up from both sides of the bridge and it was a lot of black smoke."

An Air Evac helicopter took Perry to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she later died.

The drivers of the other two vehicles involved were not injured.
