NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Medics transported two men to Vanderbilt Hospital after they fell from a bluff along the Cumberland River early Monday.

According to Metro police, the men were with friends near Youngs Lane when they tumbled 30-40 feet down the bluff.

One of the men fell into the water, but was not swept away, according to Capt. Ken Walburn.

The Nashville Fire Department launched a water rescue because emergency crews could not reach the men from above.

Both men were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Police said one of the men suffered a deep gash on his head during the fall.

According to Walburn, the men's friends were issued misdemeanor citations for possession of drug paraphernalia.
