Police do not believe it was a random act of violence that killed a north Nashville mother during a birthday party this weekend.

Police say the shooters knew about the party ahead of time and targeted the family.

According to Metro Police, Lashunda Brown, 32, and several guests were celebrating her brother's birthday at Brown's home on Spears Road.

Witnesses told police that two masked gunmen showed up at the party at about 10:30 p.m. and demanded money.

A fight broke out and several shots were fired, according to police.

Brown and three guests, Delano Blair, Marquez Baugh and Chelsey Kephart were wounded.

Brown died at the scene. The other victims were transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in stable condition.

Metro police said that Brown's children were inside the home when the shooting occurred.

"I don't know the ages," said Public Affairs Officer Kristin Mumford.  "There were at least four children, I believe. I know there's a 15-year-old."

"There are indications that there was some illegal drug activity at this residence," Mumford said.  "But again, we're looking at all potential motives."

According to police, the gunmen ran away from the scene.  So far, officers have not made any arrests.

Police said there was drug activity at the party.
