Mom won't be in court over return of Russian child

Posted: Updated:

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The mother of an American woman who sent her adopted Russian child back said her daughter won't be attending a court hearing in Shelbyville next month to determine how much child support she owes.

Torry Hansen sent her then 7-year-old son from Tennessee to Moscow in 2010 because she claimed he was violent, but a judge in Tennessee said she is liable to pay child support for the boy, who is now 9 years old and living in a village of foster families in Russia.

Hansen's mother, Nancy Hansen, told the Shelbyville Times-Gazette that her daughter won't be attending the hearing on May 17 because she claims that Torry is no longer his legal mother.

Hansen was never criminally charged and has refused to talk to investigators or attorneys.
