The west bank of the Cumberland River had a brush with the West Wing Tuesday, when First Lady Michelle Obama paid Music City a visit.

An estimated 450 people came to a Nashville fundraiser at the Pinnacle building, expecting to raise $225,000 for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign.

Tuesday morning, hundreds lined up to go inside the fundraiser, while supporters waved signs across the street. It was a warm welcome from a group hoping to catch a glimpse of the First Lady but found the $500 ticket price to get in a bit steep for their budget.

"You want to pay for one? If you pay, I'll go," laughed Diane Wilde of Wilson County Obama for America. "There will be less expensive opportunities, and we will take advantage of them. This one wasn't in the cards or in the pocketbook."

Meanwhile, fundraiser attendee Natasha Bright said she gladly paid the $500, adding every penny of the ticket was worth it.

"To be able to see what she's accomplished, you want your daughter to see that it's possible," said Natasha's mother, Rebecca Johnson.

"The energy is electric," said Barack Obama supporter Jeannette McNeil. "The age group is from very young people to senior citizens like ourselves."

"We weren't even the oldest people there," added Kathy Wheeler.

Attendees said the First Lady spoke on the president's healthcare initiative, in addition to a need for more affordable loans for college students, her concerns for the needs of military families and tax cuts for the middle class.

"She was a message of hope, encouragement and getting all of us to keep fighting the good fight," said Jeanette McNeil. "That's what we're going to do."

As part of the fundraiser, Emmylou Harris performed for the crowd. Attendees said Harris attended the fundraiser with her mother.
