Rutherford Co. may dismiss mosque lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

Rutherford County officials are moving toward dismissing a lawsuit concerning a controversial mosque, according to a report in the Daily News Journal.

The plaintiffs had accused the county government of not providing enough public notice before approving the plan.

The county's attorney has now filed a motion to ask a judge to end the case.  Most of the suit has already been thrown out, but some questions still remain.

Opponents of the mosque development on Veals Road filed the suit more than a year ago after planning commissioners approved the project.

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro broke ground in late September on the first phase of the development.
