Police officer suspended, accused of misconduct

A veteran Metro police officer has been suspended without pay for 30 days, accused of paying for sex and other allegations of misconduct.

According to police, Sgt. Christopher Polk has been decommissioned since July 28, 2011. Polk had been with the department since 1994.

Internal police documents show Polk was questioned following the death of Virginia Ivory in 2009.

According to police, Ivory's body was found in a vacant lot near an abandoned home on 23rd Avenue North.

According to the internal police documents, Polk admitted that he had a relationship with Ivory and could have a child with Ivory. The report states that Polk was not a suspect in Ivory's death, but there were concerns over Polk allegedly looking at photos of Ivory's death on his departmental computer, which is against departmental policy.

Internal police documents showed that Polk was also questioned over allegations of paying for sex while on duty in 2010, while on flood assessment assignment.

According to police, once Polk's suspension ends, his irrevocable resignation will go into effect.

Channel 4 contacted Polk's attorney who said Sgt. Polk resigned his position with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department "in good standing."

"Sgt. Polk denies a majority of the allegations made against him as they were addressed in the official paperwork, especially those stating he was engaging in inappropriate activities while on duty, but felt his interests were better served by leaving his position with the police department," Polk's attorney, Kim C. Gilleland, said.

Gilleland added Sgt. Polk further denies that he did anything that interfered with his ability to perform his policing duties with the utmost professionalism and dedication, as expected by the citizens of Davidson County.
