Fire in Hickman County destroys abandoned home

LYLES, TN (WSMV) -

Investigators say a fire that damaged two homes in Hickman County on Sunday night may have been set on purpose.

When crews arrived just after 7 p.m. one of the homes on Wrigley Road in Lyles, Tenn. was fully engulfed with flames leaping to 30 to 40 feet in the air.

Fire officials on the scene said the fire was so strong, it also damaged the home next door.

The chief of Hickman County Fire and Rescue, Phil Richards, told Channel 4 the home was abandoned after the occupants were apparently evicted last week.

There was no electricity going to the home which has leading investigators to believe someone set the destructive blaze on purpose.

Two departments spent about an hour and a half trying to put out the fire.

No one was hurt.
