Judge rules on Shanterrica Madden change of venue motion

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

The judge in a high-profile murder case against a former Middle Tennessee State University student accused of killer her roommate has ruled on the trial's venue.

Shanterrica Madden is charged with stabbing and killing Tina Stewart, a member of the MTSU basketball team, in March 2011.

Judge Don Ash ruled Thursday on the motion to change the venue from Rutherford County or select a jury from another county.

The judge's ruling states that Madden will stand trial in Murfreesboro, but the jury will be chosen from another county.

Madden's attorney, Joe Brandon, filed the motion last year after all the pre-trial publicity the case generated.

Madden is scheduled to stand trial on first-degree murder and tampering with evidence charges in early May.

In previous high-profile cases in which juries were selected outside Rutherford County, the juries were selected from the Chattanooga area.

It is not known if that will be the case this time as well.
