GREENBRIER, TN (WSMV) -
In the midst of a long line of parents waiting to pick up their children from school, police say one mom did something that put everyone in danger Tuesday.
Christina Locke is accused of driving her car right into another parent's back bumper at Greenbrier Elementary School. But that is not the worst of it.
Police say Locke came to the school to pick up her 9-year-old son. Another mother called police because of the fender bender and because of the way police say Locke was acting.
"Very nervous and couldn't stand on her feet," Greenbrier Police Chief Richard Hatfield said.
Angel Sanford's daughter also attends school at Greenbrier Elementary. Sanford says she can't believe a mom would come to school intoxicated.
"I'm kind of speechless, to tell you the truth. I can't even imagine a parent coming up here, especially when teachers are around and other kids are around and other parents are around. It's kind of irresponsible," Sanford said.
Police say Locke was on prescription medication and should not have been behind the wheel.
"She did indicate she had taken some medications," Hatfield said.
Channel 4 attempted to contact Locke about what happened, but no one answered the door at her house.
Police arrested Locke on suspicion of driving under the influence, which is her second offense.
Hatfield says he also thought about charging the woman with child abuse, because it is clear her intent was to put her son in the car, he said.
"When you are picking up children, the biggest concern you have is if somebody is impaired up there and in line. The children are being loaded and unloaded," he said.
But Hatfield says because Locke's son never got in the car, they could not add charges to the DUI.
The chief did contact DCS about the situation, and they are investigating.
Locke is out of jail on $1,200 bond. Her ex-mother in law tells Channel 4 Locke has been divorced from the woman's son for a while.
She also says her son has full custody and he let Locke pick up their child from school.
Now, the boy's grandmother says that will no longer happen. She says they have had many previous problems with Locke.
