NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Middle Tennessee remains under a risk for severe weather this evening and tonight, bringing a threat for strong winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.

Nashville is under the greatest risk for severe weather from until 8 p.m. to midnight, according to 4WARN Chief Meteorologist Lisa Spencer.

"This strong south wind is setting the right environment for thunderstorms to develop. A cold front will pass by tonight, possibly triggering thunderstorms. It's not certain that thunderstorms will develop, but if they do, they will likely be severe," said Spencer.

Temperatures warmed into the mid-70s Thursday afternoon, and a wind advisory is in affect from noon to midnight across the region.

Gusts could reach more than 35 mph, making driving difficult.

"The strongest threat from the storms will be strong straight-line winds and hail, but there is a risk for tornadoes," said 4WARN Meteorologist Paul Heggen.

The severe weather will move out of the area overnight and bring a big drop in temperatures for Friday. The high temperature on Friday will only be about 47.
