MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A Murfreesboro home was damaged by fire after it was struck by lightning Wednesday morning.

"I woke up to the loudest lightning bolt I've ever seen, heard, in my entire life," neighbor Dana Bryson said.

Bryson says moments later she saw smoke coming from her neighbor's home on Katelyn Court.

"Within six minutes there were flames around that house. I mean, it's just shocking," Bryson added.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Allen Swader says another neighbor saw lightning hit the home and attempted to get inside to see if anyone was home.

"When he made entry, there were no flames or smoke visible because everything was up in the attic," Swader said.

Fire crews arrived shortly after 7:30 a.m. Swader says lightning hit the right side of the home. Minutes later it spread across the room, causing some of the roof to cave in.

Swader say more than 20 firefighters worked for more than an hour to put the flames out. He says the home was severely damaged and will most likely be a total loss.

Meanwhile, Bryson says the burned home is a painful reminder of the power of Mother Nature.

"What would I do if it struck my house and 10 minutes later my house was on fire? I was in my pajamas," Bryson said. "I've never been this close to a fire caused by lightning."
