BRENTWOOD, TN (WSMV) -
The Brentwood landscape is dotted with million-dollar homes, gated communities, enclaves for the rich and famous. However, owning one of these homes is one thing, selling it is quite another.
Since the economy began to tank in late 2008, more and more of these so-called McMansions have been sitting on the market with no buyers in sight.
Suddenly, sales of high-end homes have taken off. In Brentwood alone, $18 million-plus homes have sold in the past four months.
Dick Williams is a broker at Crye-Leike Realtors in Brentwood. Williams deals almost exclusively with high-end properties. He told Channel 4 News that he has seen an uptick in buyers' interest in high-end homes because of a perfect economic storm, from historically low-interest rates, to key Middle Tennessee industries doing very well.
"When you see a medical community that is as robust as it is here, when you see the automobile and its after-market business, when you see the beginning of high-tech activity, and obviously, the music business," said Williams.
Williams said all of those core Middle Tennessee industries are bringing in high-paid executives, who are ready to spend, now that the economy is showing signs of life.
"Last year, first quarter, we had a lot of listings and needed buyers. This first quarter we have listings, but we are also working with a fair amount of buyers," said Williams.
