NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A former guard at a lockdown for teenage girls has been charged with having sex with one of the girls who was behind bars.

Jon Greer, 27, was a guard at the New Visions Youth Development Center on Stewart Lane, a state-run facility for teenage girls who are violent or have felony backgrounds.

"She was actually 16 at the time that these allegations began and 17 when she left the center last May," says Kris Mumford with the Metro Police Department.

Greer hadn't been working at New Life very long when his alleged sexual relationship began.

According to the police, the sexual relationship began just three months after he started working at New Visions. The girl had just been admitted.

The relationship allegedly lasted for six months, only ending when the girl left New Visions.

Metro police say the investigation started when other girls at the lockup reported what was going on.

"These kind of crimes can be underreported, so we very much want to encourage any victims to come forward," Mumford says.

DCS says it fired Greer in August when the allegations surfaced.

Greer is charged with sexual battery by an authority figure and statutory rape.
