MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -
Authorities arrested six people Tuesday in connection with a shooting outside Cason Lane Academy Monday evening, according to Murfreesboro police.
A 14-year-old boy was shot twice in the lower leg outside the elementary school in the 1300 block of Cason Lane.
According to police, two juveniles are accused of shooting the boy in the leg near the basketball courts of the school.
Three other juveniles and an adult, Travis Stanley, are charged with conspiracy in the case.
A seventh person was taken into custody Tuesday morning, but police said he wasn't involved and was released.
After the shooting, the middle school student was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.
According to a friend of the shooting victim, the incident started after an exchange of obscene gestures with some high school students.
The witness told Channel 4 he and his friends, including the shooting victim, were playing ball in the field next to Cason Lane Academy when a car with some high school students approached them and pulled a gun.
We are told the juveniles involved in this run-in are not students at Cason Lane Academy. The school was closed Monday for Presidents Day.
