New Ryman stage debuts with The Band Perry

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Ryman Auditorium's 61-year-old oak stage is no more.

Workers have been replacing the oak floorboards with stronger Brazilian Teak over the past two weeks.

The first public performance on stage showcased The Band Perry on Monday night as they headlined a sold-out show.

The new wood is more capable of handling the weight of modern sound equipment.

In honor of the stage's history, an 18-inch strip of the old wood will run along the front of the new stage.
