More jobs will be coming to La Vergne in the summer.
Retailer Saks Inc., which runs Saks Fifth Avenue, said it's adding a new distribution center. The facility will be housed in the old Borders building on Walden Books Drive, according to La Vergne city spokeswoman Kathy Tyson.
Murfreesboro resident Michelle Christenson has been out of work since August 2010. She says it's a full-time job just looking for a job.
"I probably spend about five to six hours a day when I'm fully committed," Christenson said.
But she's excited to hear that Saks Fifth Avenue will soon be opening a distribution and fulfillment center in LaVergne later this year.
"I think it's great, it's good for the economy. We could really use something like that," Christenson said.
Saks officials said, "The new center will be state-of-the-art and equipped with a sophisticated mobile-robotic fulfillment system that has been successfully utilized in the company's Maryland facility."
"All I can think about is, 250 families were going to be able to get back on their feet," LaVergne Mayor Senna Mosley said.
Business owners along Waldron Road are hoping to reap the benefits.
"New business coming is very exciting times; we were very disappointed to see Border's leave. Very happy to see new business comes to this area again," said Bob's Barbecue owner Chris Lanning.
The warehouse is expected to be up and running by August, and will eventually employ 250 full-time workers, officials said.
The company said Tennessee is centrally located and state leaders worked with them to make the project possible.
