Fire marshal investigates deadly fire in DeKalb County

SMITHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Officials with the state fire marshal's office have returned to the scene of a deadly fire at a home in DeKalb County.

Investigators will be sifting through debris of the home on Hurricane Ridge Road in the hopes of discerning what caused the fire Saturday.

The call for the fire went out just after 11 a.m. Saturday, officials said.

Crews arriving on the scene found heavy smoke and flames.

Fire officials said one person died.

Neighbors tell Channel 4 that a husband and wife live at the home.

Two survivors of the fire told WJLE Radio that they believe at electric heater may have started the fire.
