Metro Police investigating possible rape of Vanderbilt student

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro Police are investigating the reported rape and robbery of a Vanderbilt student inside a parking garage on the university's campus.

According to investigators, the reported incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday night inside the Terrace Place Garage.

Police said in a news release that the 21-year-old woman told officers she was about to get into her car on the 7th floor of the parking garage when a man confronted her, pushed her into her car, sexually assaulted and robbed her.

Police said after the man got out of the car, the victim drove to a nearby restaurant and called police.

Officers described the suspect as a clean shaven black man in his 20s or early 30s, about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, wearing a black shirt, dark jacket and dark pants.

According to investigators, the victim told police she did not see a weapon.

The Vanderbilt University Police Department is assisting Metro Police in the investigation.
