Nashville Farmers' Market to be audited

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro will audit its Farmers' Market, after the finance director's office found what it called deficiencies and weaknesses regarding tenant billings and other financial operations.

Finance director Rich Riebeling says the problems were uncovered while his staff spent several days looking at operations and financial documents at the Farmers' Market.

"We as a committee must make sure that it is profitable, sustainable and that it remains here for the next 50 years," said Metro Councilman Jerry Maynard.

During a committee meeting Thursday, Riebeling said the city is committed to the mission of the Farmers Market, which is, providing fresh, affordable, locally-grown food.

A 2005 audit uncovered issues like repairs that hadn't been done and sloppy attendance records.
