19-year-old accused of abusing child

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A 19-year-old man is charged with child abuse/neglect after a 2-year-old was taken to the hospital early Wednesday for medical treatment and had unexplained injuries.

Around midnight, a 24-year-old woman took her child to the hospital for treatment of a possible allergic reaction.

During the course of the treatment, other injuries such as bruising all over the body and burns were found on the child.

Law enforcement and child services were notified.  

Police said the injuries occurred when the mother was absent and the child was in the care of a Keith Hunter, who is a friend and has been living with the mother and child since the end of December.

The injuries to the child were found to be consistent with a slap or other disciplinary measures.

Hunter is being held on $50,000 bond.
