WOODBURY, TN (WSMV) -
Cannon County deputies shot and killed a driver Monday night after they said the man
attempted to run them over in a pickup truck, according to the
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The sheriff's department initially got a report that someone driving a black truck stole metal near Petty Gap Road.
When officers got to the road, they saw a black pick up truck driving erratically and doing doughnuts in a yard.
The TBI said it's not clear if the driver was the person who took the scrap metal, but he was in a black truck that met the description.
When the deputies tried to stop him, they said he tried to run them over, prompting them to open fire.
The man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he later died.
The deceased man's name is being withheld. The TBI said this will be a lengthy investigation.
