Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue to give out free smoke alarms

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

You can get a free smoke detector this week from the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department.

The department was recently awarded a federal grant which allowed firefighters to buy 2,500 smoke alarms for free distribution and installation for the citizens of Murfreesboro.

The department bought dual detection smoke detectors which can alert you to both flaming and smoldering fires. Firefighters said they also bought audio/visual smoke alarms and "bed shakers" for the elderly, disabled and hearing impaired.

The new campaign coincides with the fire department's Project S.A.F.E. program, which was implemented in 2000.

Smoke alarms will be available beginning Wednesday, Feb. 8. You can stop by your nearest fire station or call Fire Administration at 615-893-1422.
