
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Cookeville, the site of the TSSAA football championship games, is gearing up to host more sporting events.
According to the Cookeville Herald-Citizen, a Cookeville-Putnam County Sports Council is being formed under the umbrella of the Cookeville-Putnam County Convention & Visitors Bureau. The paper reports the group will work to leverage the area's facilities and expertise focusing on youth sports.
Spokesman Ottis Phillips said the TSSAA games have shown that the county can successfully host major sporting events. The county looks forward to being more proactive in recruiting other competition, he said.
Tennessee Tech University has been the site of the games since 2009 and will continue through 2012.
