Nashville officer nominated to top post

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro police officer has been tapped by President Obama to be a U.S. Marshal for the middle district of Tennessee.

The president nominated Deputy Chief Louise Kelton for the top post. Kelton is a 31-year veteran of Nashville's police department commanding the north precinct for several years before taking the deputy chief post in 2008.

Kelton said she's honored by the nomination.

"I have devoted my professional career to law enforcement in Nashville and am proud to serve as a member of the metropolitan police force," she said.

Kelton now awaits confirmation from the US Senate.
