Some want regulations imposed on sugary products

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Here's another reason why you may want to curb that soda addiction. A new study shows that drinking soda every day is linked to a higher risk of stroke and heart attack.

Researchers looked at 2,500 people over a 10-year period. Those who drank diet soft drinks on a daily basis had an increased risk of vascular events, including cardiac disease, plus diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

A group of researchers from the University of California-San Francisco argue that the added sugars in processed foods and drinks are responsible for so many cases of chronic disease and premature deaths that their use ought to be regulated, just like alcohol and tobacco.

There are suggestions that the government add on extra taxes, age restrictions or regulate where sugary products can be sold.
