Officer Arthur Messmer
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
A Metro officer was arrested overnight on charges of driving under the influence and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
Arthur Messmer, 44, a midnight shift patrol officer, was called back to the station shortly after roll call to handle some administrative matters. His sergeant detected the odor of alcohol and questioned Messmer, who acknowledged drinking earlier in the day Monday.
He submitted to field sobriety tasks, which showed indicators of impairment.
A blood sample was drawn prior to Messmer's booking and will be analyzed by the Tennessee Bureau Investigation. His bond on the two charges was set by a judicial commissioner at $10,000.
Messmer has been decommissioned of all police authority and will face disciplinary action after an internal investigation.
