Audit uncovers questions about Nashville Farmers' Market

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean says he's expecting prompt action on financial questions uncovered at the city's Farmers' Market.

The market's board asked the Metro Finance Department for a review two years ago.

Auditors with the city found several issues, including discrepancies between rent billings and lease agreements. Inconsistencies were also found in revenue from alcohol sales and late fee policies that weren't enforced.

The city's recommending a more thorough review.

Dean said in a written statement that he wants to see the Farmers' Market "develop into a major attraction."

But he says the city "must first ensure that the resources we put toward it are used in the proper way."
