NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Emergency crews pulled a kayaker out of the Cumberland River Saturday afternoon.

Nashville Fire Department officials said the man's kayak overturned for some reason around 3 p.m. near Shelby Park.

Witnesses saw the man go underwater, then come back up. Fire crews said the man floated downstream, trying to grab onto whatever he could to stay afloat.

Rescue teams in boats worked with crews on the shore to get the man out of the chilly water quickly.

The man was rushed to the hospital to be checked out for any signs of hypothermia.

Officials have not released the man's name.
