MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Murray State may have already survived the biggest threat to an undefeated run to the NCAA tournament. Three weeks ago the 12th-ranked Racers' leading rebounder Ivan Aska broke a bone in his right hand.
With their 6-foot-7 senior forward out for the first time in 113 games, the Racers (18-0, 6-0 Ohio Valley Conference) improvised. Coach Steve Prohm (PROHM') installed a four-guard set and implored his shooters to battle for rebounds.
It's worked with 6-foot-3 guard Donte Poole and 6-foot-1 guard Jewuan Long combining to average 7.8 rebounds in the four games Aska has missed. He was averaging six rebounds per game before being sidelined.
The Racers remain 1 of 2 undefeated Division I men's basketball teams along with No. 1 Syracuse heading into their game Wednesday at Morehead State.
