NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
For the second time in less than two weeks, a Metro emergency vehicle has been stolen.
Early this morning police arrested Tony Moorer, 20, after taking the police car for a short joyride.
It happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday, at an apartment complex on Due West Avenue in Madison.
According to police, it all started when an officer saw Moorer and two other men sitting in a car talking, and had asked what they were doing.
When the officer got their driver's licenses, it was discovered Moorer had two outstanding warrants; and as the officer attempted to arrest him, Moorer bolted.
According to police, he circled around the Metro police car and hopped in.
Moorer abandoned the car a few minutes later at another apartment complex on East Palestine Avenue, police said.
Officers launched a search for the man with police K-9s, and at about 6 a.m. police tracked Moorer down and arrested him.
Moorer is facing several charges including theft and evading arrest.
On Dec. 28, a Nashville Fire Department SUV was stolen from a fire station on Second Avenue.
Officers arrested Davin Kellar after finding the vehicle near his home in Antioch.
