Middle Tennessee viewers to see unmatched live weather radar on Channel 4 News

WSMV-TV Channel 4, the only local television station with live radar, today announced the new 4Warn Live Doppler Radar. The 4Warn Live Doppler Radar will allow Middle Tennessee viewers to see severe weather like never before. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, the all new 4Warn Live Doppler Radar has the power to take viewers inside the storm with unequaled detail and color in high definition.

"We are dedicated to serving this community and 4Warn Live Doppler Radar is an exciting example of that commitment." said Doreen Wade, WSMV-TV Vice President and General Manager. "We have put an advanced live Doppler radar that is second to none into the hands of a team of experienced meteorologists that will use it to keep our viewers out of harm's way the next time this community is in the path of severe weather."

When seconds count, Channel 4 will have the only real time radar images during a storm, all other local television stations rely on government radar images, which can be delayed by up to several minutes.

4Warn Live Doppler Radar features the Baron 350 C Receiver. The receiver ensures higher sensitivity for weather detection from the lightest snow to very heavy rain and hail. "Channel 4 has been the only television station in Nashville with its own live weather radar for years." said Matthew Hilk, News Director of WSMV-TV. "Now we have vastly improved our already excellent storm tracking capability. 4Warn Live Doppler Radar is the most powerful, high definition radar in Middle Tennessee."

4Warn Live Doppler Radar has 40% more power with 350,000 watts, and a 256 color level upgrade. This technology provides a highly detailed picture with color so rich that it has even been known to see debris flying inside of a storm.

Channel 4's Meteorologists will be able to see storms in extreme detail and monitor the effects of weather at street level to inform viewers what conditions to expect in their community. "We're extremely excited about this new radar. 4Warn Live Doppler Radar can show you exactly where a tornado is forming as it is happens. It will allow us to give you the earliest warning possible during severe weather and valuable time to get to safety." said Lisa Spencer, Channel 4 Chief Meteorologist.
