There was a heated discussion in Hickman County Thursday night over a controversial YouTube video made by students. Parents and 100 students facing suspension met with the principal at Hickman County High School to talk about the video.
The media was not allowed in that meeting since it was only for students who were in the video and their parents.
In the video, students repeat two curse words over and over for two and half minutes. It was posted on YouTube, and we were told was the video made in retaliation to a lunch break rule. That rule: If students were busted for cursing, they would have time taken away from their hour lunch break.
Now, the 100 students who were in the video have all been given three days of in-school suspension. We talked with a student and her father after Thursday's meeting who both think the punishment is too tough.
The video was shot during lunch on the Hickman County High School campus. Some students and parents have argued the punishment is a violation of free speech, but the school superintendent disagrees and says the punishment is appropriate.
The student who shot the video has been sent to alternative school for the rest of the year.
