KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee says it has turned information over to law enforcement for an investigation of former men's swimming and diving coach John Trembley.
In a statement released Wednesday, the university said the finding of "gross misconduct" by Trembley which led to the 23-year coach's dismissal is part of an ongoing investigation. University officials have declined to comment because of the investigation.
The 59-year-old Trembley was named the Southeastern Conference swimming coach of the year in 2011, the sixth time he received the honor. He received $100,000 as an annual base salary and additional pay for broadcast appearances and endorsements.
Assistant coach Lars Jorgensen has been named interim coach for the remainder of the 2011-12 season.
