Capitol protest draws attention to deadly Turkey airstrike

Posted: Updated:

Members of the Kurdish community trekked to the Tennessee State Capitol steps Monday to protest the deaths of 35 villagers killed last week in an airstrike in Turkey.

Protesters made tombstones for each victim.

Some wore tape over their mouths to represent Kurds who haven't been allowed to speak up in Turkey, while others wore blindfolds to illustrate ignorance of the issue.

"These are people. These are lives. These are individual sons, fathers, brothers, and we believe they are much more than that," organizer Remziya Suleyman said.

Turkish officials say they were targeting rebels and they're promising a full investigation into the botched airstrike.
